April 2026 Update

Hi all

Just to update you on a few things as the season fast approaches.

Firstly, it is with regret to inform you that the green will not be available for roll ups from the 18th as planned but will still open officially as planned on the 25th with the spoon drive.

The reason is upon inspection and discussion amongst the green team and in consultation with the Royston Golf Course Manager who we work closely with, it is felt the green is not quiet where we want it to be and it would benefit from another week of no bowling. Without being too technical, the weather has not been kind over the winter, Post Christmas saw sustained rainfall meaning work was restricted, now since mid-March we have had no significant rainfall and low temperatures at night. Grass needs sunlight, natural rainfall, and a core temperature of 7 degrees for growth, two of which we have not had. The treatment program has been hindered by windy weather; this is not ideal for applying granular products. This week we will once again give a light top dress, seed, and growth stimulant to promote growth.  A weeks rest now will benefit us through the rest of the season. Once again apologies but I hope you understand the ever-changing climate makes green maintenance a challenge.

A big thank you to all the people who came this past weekend for the spring clean, lots of jobs were done.

Some good news we congratulate Katie Dysart & Will Moulton on their marriage and, they have agreed to be the Managers for the Meldreth & District league (MDL). Have a great year,

Other Mangers are Julie Homer , Ladies Team Manager, Craig Kilford, Mens Team Manager & Jenny Thompson, Stevenage & District Mixed league. (SDML).

Tomorrow Tuesday 14th we have the club competition draw night at 7pm. An entertaining night as we draw the competitions live. We will also be handing out the club handbook/fixture booklet and be taking any questions you may have for the upcoming season.

We have Open Days Sat 25th, Sun 26th April & Sun 3rd, Mon 4th May 10am-1pm, if you could spread the word about our game and our superb facilities that would be great. If you can help, just to chat to people or make a cup of tea please be at the club 9.45.

Lessons for new bowlers will be Tues 5th , Fri 8th & Mon 11th of May.

Please check the website and Facebook page for information during the season.

Lastly as with each year we always need help, we have a great club but to keep it that way we need people to help, be it cutting the green, a few hours catering or helping with the bar, every little will help.

I wish you all and successful and enjoyable season at our wonderful club.
